A Disappointing Experience at the End of Our Trip
We were excited to end our Sri Lanka journey at this hotel but found it underwhelming. Although the ocean view from our room was fantastic, the overall cleanliness and maintenance left much to be desired. We enjoyed live music during dinner, but the service was painfully slow and disorganized. For a better experience, try nearby local restaurants for authentic cuisine.

The hotel is luxurious, beautiful historical with lovely view of the sea. The location is amazing and favourable, it's so close to an other Temple, Crescat Shopping Mall, Cinnamon Grand Property, The Bavarian, The American Embassy and the Indian Embassy and other restaurants. You won't be disappointed if you stay in Galle Face Beach district.

Relaxed style and comfort - pure class. Amazing and large room, with a sea view. Great spa bath in the room.
If the windows were cleaner, I could enjoy the view more, but I guess the salty spray makes them dirty again pretty quickly.

This is a lovely historic hotel and I'm glad I stayed - full of atmosphere and right next to the beach with the souind of crashing waves
I was put in a room on the main road when I had asked for a quiet room. The staff kept assuring me this was temporary, and they would move me to a quiet room when available. I asked numerous times and each time got a different excuse. Finally, just before midnight I went again to reception and asked why I was not yet moved to a quiet room. Suddenly 1 turned up and I was moved. I did not like the "runaround" I was given.

It's a very old hotel, since 1864, and it's fascinating to stay in such an old hotel, right on the sea shore.
My room had a lot of problems due to lack of maintenance, the bathtub sometimes was becoming full of dirty water coming from the draining, and the personnel, who witnessed the problem, didn't offer me another room and even didn't come back to clean the bathtub. I was in the main wing and I've been told that the rooms in the other wing had been already renovated.

Newly remodelled and practical room with very comfy beds, a mini fridge bar, climate control and an individual safe. Plenty of food at breakfast, such as eggs, pastries, bangers and fresh fruit. Early check in and late check out. Cooperative staff, good service, exceptional views.
A little small room.

Colonial style building, excellent view, can hear the sea at night, spacious rooms and bathrooms, helpful staff in business center
The hotel could be the best in the city considering magnificent colonial style and location. Unfortunately the management of the hotel does not consider the renovation which is absolutely necessary to begin. The walls, cellings, carpets need attention. Hotel has a very old feeling (but not in a pleasant way, just old things that need renovation).TV could be changed in the room. I believe Regency Wing should be much better.

Old-world charm; nice location
The room in this new, Regency wing was fine. Beware, however, of the rooms in the old wing. They are badly maintained and need urgent renovation.

perfect spot for strolls by the sea and iconic landmarks
I cherished my time at this charming hotel, perfectly positioned to explore nearby attractions like the National Museum of Colombo, almost 2 km away, and the bustling Galle Face Green just a few steps from the entrance, making it easy to soak in the local culture while enjoying picturesque ocean views.

The location and the service
I would think for the price free wifi like all the other hotels I stayed at in Sri lanka for half what it cost to stay at the Galle Face. The laundry was really expensive.

Staying at this historic gem with my sister was a delight. The gorgeous sea view from our room and the fantastic buffet breakfast were highlights. We loved winding down at the pool after exploring the city, an oasis of calm in Colombo.
In my sister's opinion, a kids' club would be great for families.

We spent one night at galle face hotel and found the room, which was on the newly renovated wing of the hotel, to be excellant. We arrived very early due to train times and were allowed to go to our room earlier than we were meant to. The initial service was excellant.
As we were not flying home until the early hours of the following morning we agreed, when offered, to pay for another night in order to make the final few hours before going to the airport, more comfortable. We were told we would have to change rooms and that we would pay 3 dollars more than the on line price paid for the first night. The room we were moved to, which was in the old wing of the hotel, was of a much lower standard. We also received a call from reception asking what time we were leaving, having paid for a full night. My husband also became ill with sickness and diarrhea aprox 30 hrs after arriving at the hotel having spent 2 weeks in sri lanka, staying at 4 other hotels, with no stomach problems at all. Over all not happy with any of the service on the 2nd day which was in sharp contrast with the excellant service and room on the first day.
